As many of your know, KPI has been operating in Rwanda since 2008. Between 2008 – 2010 the organization was centered around volunteer trips and sharing the beauty and wonder of countries like Rwanda and Cambodia while also giving participants the opportunity to play with local children and teach them the values of sport. In 2010, KPI started Let’s Play through our partner City of Joy in Gatagara, Rwanda. The programs purpose was to share the value of S.P.O.R.T.S (School, Physical Fitness, Opportunity, Respect, Teamwork, Self-esteem).
This June KPI was excited to relaunched our Let’s Play program in our community as Let’s Play Fair. Our mission is to use sport to promote gender equity on and off the field. We do this by focusing one three core values, excellence, friendship, and fair play. Since we are an organization founded by an Olympian, we share the same core values as the Olympics.
So far, our kids are doing a great job grasping the concepts. Since August we have focused on Fair Play specifically. Daily we go through examples of Fair Play and bring the teachings into our day-to-day activities. If and when you come to visit our program, you’ll be able to see our progress. You’ll notice “fair play” being yelled throughout the day!
If you’re interested in seeing our program first hand, check out our 2014 volunteer trips to Rwanda or contact Tracy. We hope you’ll join us!
