Sponsor a Player-Student
to Play and Learn
When you Sponsor a Player-Student you receive a special and personal way to educate, connect and support a child to Play and Learn. You are helping to empower young girls and educate young boys how to break down the barriers of gender inequality.
KPI believes that young people are the long-term solution to changing deep-rooted beliefs, and building a healthy society where each gender’s contribution is highly valued.
Gender inequality remains a major barrier to human and community development worldwide. Across Africa and Asia, women and girls are consistently denied access to equivalent opportunities their male counterparts receive, and are often prevented from accessing education, engaging equally in society, or participating in sports activities.
Sport has the powerful ability to reduce these restrictions in society while also providing a unique environment where harmful gender norms and accepted conceptions of masculinity and femininity can be renegotiated; it is a place to challenge and redefine gender inequality,

What can I send to the player(s) I sponsor?
KPI requests that sponsors only send photographs and letters – the children love to get mail! We encourage you to write letters and send pictures. Please either email them to firstname.lastname@example.org or Mail to: 1406 W. Meadow Loop Road, Park City, UT 84098
How often will I hear from my KPI Players(s)?
You can expect to receive updates about your child(ren) on our KPI Sponsor a Child Facebook page at least 2-3 times a year. KPI children will have time during their school breaks to respond to letters and post questions and photos on Facebook. Don’t forget to Like the KPI Sponsor a Child page so you can check it for updates!
What happens if the KPI player(s) I am sponsoring decides to drop out of school?
KPI children have faced tremendous obstacles in their lives and continue to face significant challenges to their academic lives – many have been impacted by the genocide, some have family and household responsibilities, and many girls face significant cultural pressure to marry young and have children. In the event these challenges become too great for a sponsored KPI child, and she/he decides not to continue their studies, KPI will inform the sponsor and ask how you would like to proceed.
What happens once my KPI player(s) graduates out of KPI programs?
KPI provides participants the opportunity to become Junior KPI Coaches to mentor and support our younger KPI players. KPI also continues to provide opportunities in English language training, leadership training and computer courses at our Sport for Equality Community Center.
Lastly, KPI continues to form strategic partnerships in the community to create post- secondary school opportunities for our players. Some of these partnerships include: apprenticeships, internships, access to micro-loans, and in country university scholarships.
What if I decide to end sponsorship before she/he finishes secondary school?
We strongly encourage sponsors to commit to the life-changing opportunity of sponsoring a child(ren) if at all possible for multiple years. Sponsors can end their commitment at any time, for any reason, but our hope is that you will choose to support your KPI child for a minimum of three years.
Can I visit my KPI Player(s) in Rwanda or Cambodia?
ABSOLUTELY, we / they would love that! KPI organizes an annual trip to Rwanda or Cambodia in June for friends, Olympians and supporters to visit and participate in KPI’s Olympic Day Celebration. It’s an incredible opportunity to experience our work first-hand, volunteer alongside Olympians and meet the incredibly inspiring and resilient children that are directly impacted by your support. Visit our Volunteer Trips page for more info.
